TANAP with its expanse 76 763 ha includes highest mountains – High Tatras. It has many sheer descents, crystal-clean tarns and deep valleys. TANAP comprises of High, Bielanske and West Tatras. In the middle of High Tatras is situated the highest peak of Slovakia Gerlachovsky Stit (2655 m). The whole district has features of high-altitude landscape. On the west side dominates Krivan (2494 m) and on the east side Lomnicky Stit (2632 m). There are about 120 lakes, many waterfalls, the most famous one is Kmetuv waterfall (80 m) and waterfall Skok. High Tatras offer perfect conditions for winter and summer holiday.
National park Low Tatras is with its expanse 81 095 ha the largest protected area in Slovakia. It has many karst phenomenons, silent valleys, clean streams, various fauna and vegetation. Low Tatras are the second biggest mountains of West Karpaty. The highest peak is Dumbier (2043 m). Touristic centre of winter sports became the second biggest peak of Low Tatras – Chopok (2024 m). The biggest cave complex is situated in Demanovska dolina – Ice cave (Ledova), Cave of Liberty (Svobody), Cave of Peace (Miru), Pusta. There are also hot springs in this area, the most famous are in Liptovsky Jan.
Slovakian paradise is typical showcase of mountain karst land. It is famous for its deep hollows, with many waterfalls and large tablelands. The highest peak is Javorina (1186 m). Slovakian paradise belongs with its exceptional beauties of nature to the most beautiful parks in Central Europe.Woods cover almost 90% of district. Lover of nature and sports come into their own in every season. In south part of National park is situated pond Palcmanska Masa, that offer ideal conditions for water sports and fishing.
In National park Velka Fatra are well-preserved virgin woods and primeval forests. In this area there are about 50 kinds of protected plants. Very unique is occurrence of yew-tree. Fauna in Velka Fatra has mountain character. There is also folk architecture preserve in Vlkolinec registered in UNESCO.
Protected territory Mala Fatra is situated in northwest Slovakia. This area is very rich in waterfalls and streams. The biggest one – Sutovsky waterfall with height 38 m. The highest peak is Velky Krivan (1079 m). Mala Fatra is very popular with tourists. There are good conditions for both winter and summer sports.
